[SAVANNAH, Ga, Feburary 4th, 2025] On Feburary 2nd, the 67th Grammy Awards were hosted in Los Angeles, California, at Crypto Arena, and the one award recipent people cannot stop talking about is Tampa native Doechii. The ‘Persuasive‘ artist would show up to the event donning an exquisite Thom Browne garment, and would recieve nominations in three different categories for her work. Her biggest moment of the night however, would come when the award for the Best Rap Album category was announced. Doechii, with a contagious smile on her face, happily accepted the award from Cardi B, her predecessor for her latest project, ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal.”

She would promptly give one of the most impactful speaches of the night. She started off by stating, “This Category was introduced in 1989, and two women have won-.” She immediately corrects herself, “THREE women have won! Lauryn Hill, Cardi B, and now Doechii!” She also showed gratitude to her mother and gave a testament to her perseverence that would fuel the creative process for the album. “I dedicated myself to sobriety, and God told me I would be rewarded and he would show me how good it would get,” she said, with eyes full of joyful tears, she would also address and advice the Black women watching the ceremony:

I wanna tell you, you can do it. Anything is possible. Don’t allow anybody to project any stereotypes on you that tell you that you can’t be here, that you’re too dark or that you’re not smart enough or that you’re too dramatic or you’re too loud. You are exactly who you need to be, to be right where you are and I’m a testimony.”

After, she would procede to tear the roof off the building with an amazing performance. She would wear another Thom Browne garment with Dr.Martens, and performed “Catfish” and “Denial Is a River,” which would send social media in a frenzy. All in All, Doechii’s authentecity and versatility have catapulted her from being underrated, to a force in the industry.
