Hailing from Broward County, Florida, Jayden Yen Dumont, professionally known as Jaydes was arrested in Oakland Park, Florida on November 9th. The Florida native known heavily for his music in the underground hip hop scene, and was heavily commended for his versatility. He garnered comparisons to XXXTENTACION, another prominent figure in the music industry from Broward, who unfortunately passed away due to gun violence. Jayden’s went by multiple names in his career such as Evvls, Mandy, and Yen. Dumont began posting music on the platform Soundcloud in 2020. Gaining traction in 2021 with internet hits like, highschool, trust issues, and scam likely. However 2022 is when he would officially break out in the underground scene with highly popular singles slugs and south and two eps, romanticism and Heartpacing, which he self produced. He would go on to collab with Rich Amiri, Riovaz, and Yung Fazo and really cement his sound and style on his 2023 project ghetto cupid.

This though would not stop the emerging star to get in a bit of trouble, as around this time last year, Jaydes would be exposed for fabricating his age to two underage girls. Despite only being 17, he disguised himself as a 16 year old boy, and met up with one of the girls in L.A., and reportedly engaged in inappropriate actions with her. On November 6th, 2023, an X account @ihydj_ revealed a screenshot and screen recording of the conversation between the 14 year old girl and Jaydes. Not even a full year later, an Instagram account known as, @exposingjaydes is responsible for spreading the news of Jaydes most recent crimes. The poison artist, allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend on November 2nd, after she rejected his advances towards her. He was accused of stabbing her with a pair of scissors and a pink boxcutter in her arms, neck, and back. This sent the entire community ablaze, with accounts on X showcasing not only the victim’s wounds, but also the conversations she had recalling the events. She wrote

“I ran into the bathroom w[with] my phone as soon as i got away and called 911 and he ran away before the cops got there.”

Dumont’s arrest warrant was put out on November 3rd, and during this, the rapper was spotted on the social media app Discord and Roblox, a popular video game, all while being on the run. He would go on to be arrested a week later at a Broward County Denny’s restaurant, where police received reports that Jayden was having a mental episode while “grabbing a knife.” When authorities arrived, Dumont was standing at a table with a knife, and he wouldn’t speak or move. His mugshot went viral for the condition he was in when the picture was taken, and the community was in a mix of emotions.

Some obviously bashed the artist for his heinous crimes, but there was a large group of people who were hurt and disappointed in his actions. One commenter on his YouTube would leave their remarks stating,

“I don’t think [anybody] understands how actually upsetting it is to watch if they didn’t have a personal attachment to his music.”

Anyone familiar with the scene knows that allegations cloud a good percentage of artists trying to advance their careers, but Jaydes’ situation is really horrifying, and is a constant reminder to never meet your idols, in a sense where, in this scene no one is truly a role model. With him recently passing 1 Million monthly listeners on Spotify, and sitting at 47,000 YouTube subscribers, Jaydes not only sits with major uncertainty about his career, but he may never even be released from prison as he sits with no bond. There is also speculation that Jaydes foreshadowed his crimes in his music video for junkie off his latest project Count Dracula. Although it doesn’t excuse his actions, it’s obvious he had mental issues, and this should serve as a lesson to management out there, that instead of enabling these artists, help them because no one truly knows what a person is capable of.
